TRAGEDIES IN HIROSHIMA: HOW THE JAPANESE OVERCAME THE MASSIVE ATOMIC BOMB DROPPING. OVERVIEW Why did the United States bomb Japan? World War 2 the Japanese sided with the Germans, who were trying to kill all of the Jews and other minorities who would ruin their idea of a perfect race On December 7, 1941, the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, a naval base outside of Honolulu, Hawaii, United States. The Japanese feared that the United States would halt their efforts to conquer all of the South Pacific. About three months of fighting the Japanese after the Germans surrendered, the United States decided to finally end the war by dropping an atomic bomb on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE BOMBING In December of 1941, the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor because the United States were the biggest threats to the Japanese conquering all of the South Pacific In 1942, J. Robert Oppenheimer starts to work on the Manhattan Project, a United States government program that was founded to build and test atomic bombs that were at first going to be used against Germany July 16, 1945, the United States successfully sets off the first atomic bomb in the desert of New Mexicoâ⬠¹, now the bomb was ready THE BOMBING OF HIROSHIMA Little Boy, the first atomic bomb to be used as a weapon, was dropped from the Enola Gay, on August 6, 1945 at 8:15 am The bomb explodes 2,000 feet in the air, immediately killing 80,000 After the bomb was dropped, an estimated 20,000 more Japanese civilians were killed due to radiation exposure Nine days after the bombing of Hiroshima, the Japanese announced their surrender HOW HIROSHIMA HAS OVERCOME THE BOMBING By late 1947, most buildings, roads, and shops were rebuilt Water and Hygiene structures were not effected by the bomb Since the bombs exploded in the air, not much radiation was spread The Hiroshima Peace Memorial City Construction Law; a law that advocated for the construction of peace memorial buildings and other necessities like roads and bridgesâ⬠¹ MODERN DAY HIROSHIMA Hiroshima is a thriving port city that has goods come through the Hiroshima Port and the Hiroshima International Airport Mazda gets their cars and car parts made in Hiroshima Hiroshima has two major sports teams, the Hiroshima Toya Carp (Baseball) and the Sanfrecce Hiroshima (Football) Hiroshima University is currently ranked 12th in Japan The Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum (shown below) was named one of the ten most important memorial museums in the world ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY Websites: Taylor, Adam.
